Easter Sunday = DIY Day

ÖFoyer

Easter Sunday was a day for productivity and chocolate! Roman and I got up staring at these beautiful canvases we had done on our cruise (worth every cent spent), thinking we needed to get them up ASAP!

Then the idea hit us to pull together the distressed/stained wood wall, like we once had in our old house. The foyer already had its own theme going on though. Took us about 45 minutes to come up with the idea, run to Home Depot and grab supplies. This was an impulse trip. No thinking, just doing. We settled on a paint color by letting Lacey help us pick between our two favorite colors and melding them into one. Garden Vista was the winner!

We purchased the pre-stained boards all cut to 4-feet long and 4-inches wide and roughly 1/4-1/2 inch in depth, some liquid nails wood bonding glue, finishing nails and the paint itself. As soon as we got home we had the kids help with the painting, Roman got the saws ready and I picked out a movie so then the kids could disappear once the hammering and gluing begun. Although, Lucas doesn’t like to be more than a foot away from me if we are all home. Little turd…

The trickiest parts of the wall were up against the ceiling since our walls are rather crooked, around the outlets and the slim opening between the door frame and side wall. We pulled the outlets out, using a 2-inch long screw to pop them out of their inlay on the wall.

It took several cuts but thankfully Roman has all the tools and toys to make it happen. We started at the top of the wall and worked our way down with full length boards. Once we got three or four rows on, then it was time for the smaller pieces and cuts to come in to place. We laid the boards all on the floor to check out the colors and where we wanted each piece to go. Getting the knots and cracks over the area of the wall painted.

It took us roughly 8 hours from start to finish to finalize the wall. For a day’s work, we have no complaints! The entire project was purchased for approximately $200. We returned once box of boards since they were not used and we over bought on Hard as Nails glue. Now on to the laundry room!
